That sounds lovely, Christine. Several years ago we went to coastal Yugoslavia which i believe is now Croatia (...please someone correct me if im wrong - as geography is not my strong point!) We stayed at Becici near Budva - it was absolutely lovely and the local scenery really beautiful.
It was a lovely holiday, very HOT when we were there!! On our last day tho' we had a crazy high speed journey back to the airport and weren't really sure what was going on... but it was only when we got home we realised the war had broke out while we were there!
I would definitely go back now tho' if given the opportunity (...no chance at present with our big dog as she cannot spend more than a couple of nights away from her beloved daddy!)
Hope you have a lovely time Christine!
We are going away in April with friends and their little ones plus our two girls. We have booked a house on the seafront at Whitby - I am so excited - it looks gorgeous - we have hired a beautiful 3 storey house with Pauls best friend from school and his family.
Then we are going to stay near Lynton in August, again we have booked a house - this time through friends (just us four this one and the dogs) The house is by a little river and looks really quiet and relaxing - Looking forward to that too!
Hope your hospital appointments go well Christine and that this holiday is perfect this time. Its so nice to have something to look forward to xxxxx

Christine, Croatia is beautiful. We went to a lovely place called Rovinj, on the Istrian Peninsula in 1988 before the war, we had a really lovely holiday there.
Lizziemouse, I love Whitby, especially the fish and chips at Magpie's restaurant and take away. Never tasted better anywhere!
I've booked for us to go to Tenerife for a week at the beginning of March. Holiday was a bit more expensive than I expected, but I was able to pay half with my Tesco clubcard points (I spend a fortune at Tesco obviously!). Really looking forward to some sun on my joints. Only 7 weeks to wait.

OO Jan, lucky YOU! Not long to wait till fun in the sun for you!
Paul's already had some of those fish and chips - that was one of the reasons we booked! He said they were the best fish and chips he'd ever tasted too!

Would agree with the fish & chips from the Magpie - there`s usually a long queue, but most people wait.

We are going to Portugal in June, to the Algarve. It`s about 27 years since we were last there, so I expect there will be changes, although I`m told that Tavira is less affected than most places there. We just fancied a change from France, & managed to find decent accommodation at last year`s prices.

All those holidays sound lovely at the moment. Not sure what we're doing yet. We may book a weekend away for the spring. We had to cancel last year's holiday to Majorca as Patrick our son was ill. I am reluctant to book anywhere else abroad at the moment as he is quite bad with his Crohns again.

Have a good time everyone.

My dad is from Croatia- the Dalmatian coast. I've been there a couple of times and it was beautiful. Never been to the islands though but I understand that they're lovely. May is a good time to go as it can get very hot in July- September.
If you get chance , go to Split on the mainland- if you like history and culture as there's a Roman palace. I also renmember there was a good market although things may have changed. Much of the coast and the islands were untouched by the war.

I remember the local wine Prosek- a bit like sherry if you have a sweet tooth- and quite strong!

I've booked our usual trip to Lake Garda for August. We've been going there for 11 yrs to the same hotel and they know us well. We feel like part of the family now. It's reassuring to know that help is on hand if I'm not well while I'm out there.

Enjoy Croatia- post some photos when you get back!

Lizziemouse- we went to Whitby last October but only for a few hours. I'm hoping to go back when the weather is warmer. We couldn't get in the Magpie as there was a massive queue. We went somewhere else- can't remember the name but the fish n chips were still really good. And so cheap compared to Hertford prices!

Sounds great, Christine, hope you have a lovely time.

Lizziemouse - we're off to Whitby in april as well. We may pass each other in the street and not know it!

Then later in the year we've booked a cottage in Dorset with friends.
